Fall's in Full Swing!

Hey Middle School Parents!

Wanted to remind you about a few cool things going on in The Mix:

FALL CAMP @ Doe River Gorge for Middle School and High School Students is just around the corner...Sept. 25-27!!! The cost is $140, but don’t let money be a barrier to your students sharing an amazing experience with their friends and leaders! Talk to me about scholarships and payments. I truly believe God is going to work in mighty ways at camp this fall. We have a great band coming to lead worship, and our speaker will be my good friend Chris Wheeler who is on staff at Fellowship Bible Church in Nashville. Chris is a gifted communicator who has spoken at several Girls of Grace events as well as the Brio Magazine Mission Trip in Guatemala last summer! Deadline for registration is rapidly approaching, so get your students signed up!

Last year at fall camp we experienced a terrible tragedy in the loss of our friend Zach Weimer. Please know that we have thoughtfully chosen our new camp location and activities.

242 Groups have launched! If your son or daughter has not checked out his/her small group, please encourage them to do so! There are directions to all the host homes here: www.tworiverschurch.org/themix

Podcasts from The Mix are posted on the Mix website each week so you can listen in to what your students are hearing on Sunday mornings! Of course the week I planned to remind you about this is the same week we forgot to record the talk! I’m sure it was the best one ever! But typically you will find the audio recordings out there every week! Just click on the “Podcast” tab at the top of the Mix page.

Feel free to contact me any time!

Ramping Up!

Dear Parents,

We are ramping up for a great fall semester in The Mix and that means preparing for 242 Groups – our small groups which are based on grade and gender! These small groups provide essential time and space for our leaders to connect with the students and dig deeper into God’s Word.

Do you have the gift of hospitality, or just love to entertain guests?! Would you please consider hosting one of these smal groups in your home this year?! We’ll start with a commitment through Christmas and then we can evaluate how it’s going. Here’s the drill:

Groups meet on Wednesdays (starting in September) from 6:30-8:00pm. We provide the adult leaders to facilitate the group time.

You are responsible for either providing a GOOD snack each week, or putting together a schedule with the parents from that group to bring snacks each week.

We are looking for homes that are centrally located and big enough to host a group of 6-12 people. Fun activities (like a trampoline or b’ball goal) are a bonus, but not necessary.

Thanks for considering. Please contact paula.howell@tworiverschurch.org to sign up or ask questions! You will be blessed!

Important BackYard Bible Club UPDATE!!!

Dear Parents and Students,

I want to inform you of a recent change to our Backyard Bible Clubs project next week! We have decided to condense our program into ONE full, action-packed day on Wednesday, July 15.

There were a number of factors involved in the decision, and we feel confident that this will provide the highest and best use of our efforts to serve the families of Walter P Taylor homes and the surrounding community!

So here is the NEW plan:

Cost: $40. The cost remains the same. This covers the cost of food on Sunday, t-shirts, VBS supplies, snacks and food when we feed the community. Your $40 is giving the kids and families downtown a great afternoon of fun, food and the gospel!

Planning Meeting - Sunday, July 12 from 10:45 – 1pm @ The Shed
Here we will break up into our teams to plan and organize the VBS program. Pizza will be provided during our time together.

Wednesday, July 15

10:00am – Drop off students @ The Shed

2:00-4:45pm – VBS program @ Dr. Walter Hardy Park

5:00pm – Dinner for kids/families in the community

Read Carefully: You will pick up your students at Dr. Walter Hardy Park. We are encouraging you (parents) to arrive between 4-5pm to help prepare and serve dinner to the community! This is a great opportunity for you to serve with your kids! And we need the help! We are teaming up with the Z-Foundation for this dinner, and seeing families serve together is right at the center of their mission! If you cannot make it to serve dinner, you must arrive to pick up your student no later than 5:45pm.

Dr. Walter Hardy Park (2020 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave). There is a church across the street from the park where you can park your car. There will not be enough parking at the park.

I apologize for the late change, and I hope this will not cause a problem for anyone. I’m excited about this opportunity to serve and share the good news of Jesus Christ!

Contact me if you have any questions!

2RC Vision in the MIX

Hello parents!

I hope you all had a chance to hear from Brad on Sunday about our refreshed vision for Two Rivers Church in the coming months. Here in The Mix we’re excited to be joining in that vision.  We are exploring and planning ways to help fit middle school ministry firmly into the broader mission of welcoming people into a caring community.

Here’s where you get involved! We want to form a team of parents of middle school students to be a welcoming crew at the main building on Sundays. Members of this team would be stationed in the lobby and near the back doors of the church to greet new middle school students and their families, tell them a little bit about the Mix, and walk these students/families over to the Shed to introduce them to us! The team will be an important link between the first steps into Two Rivers and that long walk to the Shed, and it’s a great way to begin to get involved in the middle school ministry!

If you are interested in serving on this welcoming team, please contact us right away! We hope to have you on a rotating schedule as soon as possible!

Upcoming Summer Opportunities

Hello Parents!

I want to update you on a couple of things and request some help!

1. Summer Camp at Sharp Top Cove is upon us! We're excited about camp May 22-25! Please be praying for students and leaders attending.

2. Rising 6th graders will be joining us very soon! We will have a retreat just for them on June 5-6! If you have a rising 6th grader, he/she needs to go with us on this short overnight!

**Opportunity to Serve **
We want to do some tubing on the lake at the rising 6th grader retreat. Do you have a boat? And would you be available to come out and pull kids around the lake for a few hours on Saturday, June 6? Contact Jon at: jon.teague@tworiverschurch.org

3. Rising Freshmen (outgoing 8th graders) have a great opportunity coming up on Wednesday, June 3! The high school ministry is throwing a Summer Bash to welcome the new freshmen! Contact Chris at: chris.jessen@tworiverschurch.org for more information! Also, don’t forget about the $50 deposit for the high school mission trip to West Virginia!

That’s it for now! Have a great week!

Jon

Katie learned how to enter a blog

Yeah Katie! And this is how she learned. She put her fingers on the keyboard of the computer and started typing until what was in her brain came through her fingers. Suddenly, VOILA!  A blog fell out on the page.
