Growth Groups

Relationships

The key to lasting spiritual growth and ministry impact is relationships. We want to provide safe environments where people can develop authentic friendships, grow spiritually, and use their spiritual gifts in ministry within the group, and in their communities. We have structured our entire approach to ministry around building relationships through groups. Community works and continues to be the best environment for fueling life change and launching people into ministry.

Groups are the centerpiece of our adult ministry. If adult ministry was a wagon wheel, growth groups would be the hub. We offer coed, single, men’s and women’s groups. Groups are meeting all around the greater Knoxville and 4 county area in the early morning, during the day, and on most evenings. Since our early days, the vast majority of our attendees regularly meet in groups (following the example of the early church in Acts 2). It’s very challenging to experience the richness of life in the 2RC community without group participation.

Keys to our group approach…

  1. Test Drive - with clear ON Ramps and OFF Ramps.  We understand you may be apprehensive about joining a group, so we structure our groups to meet for 6 to 8 week cycles.  Pre-registration on Sunday mornings and a personalized approach make it easy to find your way to a group.  Try out a group, at the end of the cycle if you want to change groups or take a break, it's OK.  We believe God often connects us with people for mutual growth for a season, and then may release us to meet and grow with new people.  Often many groups will stay together for longer periods, but at the end of each group cycle, on-ramps and off-ramps are opened wide.

  2. Clear Expectations - At the start of each group cycle, the group leader/host will clearly explain group expectations and the group will make logistical plans together.

  3. Balanced Diet - Group sessions will typically include some time for worship, developing relationships, study/application, prayer, and serving.  Often group discussions will be centered on practical application of the Sunday messages.  As real life challenges arise, the group partners with the Holy Spirit in providing comfort, encouragement, strength, and practical help.

  4. Relational Priority - The ultimate success of any group experience is a more passionate relationship with God, and deeper relationships with group members.  When this happens, momentum and spiritual growth is inevitable.  People help each other break through growth barriers, affirm spiritual gifts, and ministry is launched!
